Local company hopes IID reconsiders terminating their contract
Employees at Enalasys, an innovative technology and air conditioning maintenance company, could be out of their jobs if the Imperial Irrigation District terminates their contract.
Recently, IID announced they would be ending their partnership with Enalasys and they plan to have a new company take over by the beginning of next year.
Eric Taylor, the company’s CEO, is upset over the news and wants to know why.
“We’re just baffled over the fact that the contract was pulled. And so I’m really worried about these people’s families. They rely on the income that comes from this. We wanted to grow the program not kill the program,” said Taylor.
So far IID seems to be moving forward with getting a new business to run the program.
IID Communications specialist Bob Schettler said, “The board is committed to the program. To bringing it back before the first of the year as well as using local people. Local participation and that’s key here.”
Edgar Leal, an Enalasys employee, was shocked over IID’s decision.
Leal said, “I was totally surprised because we’ve been in this program for so long. We’ve been doing good. It was a big shock. That’ll mean we’ll lose our jobs you know. So we depend on IID to keep working.”
Taylor believes the contract for the program should be put up for bid.
“We won the bid fair and square. And we challenge any competitor that would come and bid against us. And so what I would say is let the best technology win,” said Taylor.
IID board members chose not to comment on the matter of reconsidering the contract termination at a public board meeting.
Taylor hopes the board will reconsider.
