There’s an app for that, even for voting!
With all of the helpful apps within the app store, Yuma County has developed an app to assist voters on election day.
This service was created with the help of the Yuma County Recorder’s office and the Elections and Information Technology Services department.
The “Find Vote Center” tool allows registered voters to find as well as get directions to their nearest voting center in Yuma County .
This makes it simple for voters to find a polling place if they happen to be running errands away from their home.
Now that voters can vote at any location, there are no longer limitations for where a resident may be in the county.
There are a total of 9 polling places including the Yuma County Health Department, Yuma Civic Center, and Community Christian Church.
As long as you have a smartphone, tablet or computer that has access to the internet, you can utilize this new tool.
Find Vote Center takes advantage of the latest technology from the county’s GIS program.
Deputy county administrator Paul Melcher said the app was thanks to the GIS, or geographic information systems.
The county has this division dedicated to creating maps “similar to what you see on google maps,” Melcher said.
The county already has maps of the voting centers, but they wanted voters to “understand exactly where those centers are,” Melcher said.
Find Vote Center will help voters find their closest polling place and get directions to the location they choose.
Melcher says this is the first year the app is available and new features will be added as time goes on.
Yuma county’s website also features other resources in which you can locate polling centers and check to see if you are registered.
Polling centers are open from 6 A.M. to 7 P.M.
A ballot cam is also available to allow people to track results as they are counted.
