Authorities warn of caller claiming to be a detective

The Yuma Police Department is warning the public of phone scams that have been making rounds in the community.

In a press release, YPD said the caller claims to be a YPD detective who said they are in some type of legal trouble. They then ask for payment in order to fix the issue.

YPD added that they want to remind the public that they do not make calls to request money, do not request credit card information, do not give warrant information over the phone, and do not request a contact information for verification purposes.

If you believe you have been a victim of this type of crime, please report it to your local law enforcement agency.
