Six-month-old baby hospitalized following collision
A six-month-old infant was hospitalized following a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of 24th Street and Avenue A Monday evening.
Yuma police said the driver of a 2016 Mazda sedan was heading westbound and tried to make a U-turn at the intersection. The driver then collided with a 1998 Jeep Cherokee heading eastbound.
One of the Jeep’s passengers, a six-month-old infant, was transported to the hospital after authorities believe the baby suffered life-threatening injuries.
The infant was secured in a child safety seat but the seat appeared to have been improperly installed in the vehicle, police said.
No other injuries were reported. Alcohol is not believed to have been a factor in the collision.
The incident remains under investigation.
