Visitors honor Senator McCain at Capitol memorial service

A procession of black vehicles arrived at the Arizona State Capitol building just before 10 a.m. on Wednesday, signifying the first of two events to honor Senator John McCain in Arizona.

The public was welcomed in to say their farewells to Senator McCain.

One woman called McCain love, while an Air Force veteran traveled five hours from San Diego.

“Basically, his whole life, he put country first. In this adversity, he still found a way to try to bring people together,” explained Jorge Poveda.

Others, like Tom Burns, state captain of the Patriot Guard Riders, lined the outside of the Capitol to welcome McCain with American flags.

“Senator McCain was one of our biggest allies for veterans services for assuring that veterans were given what they earned. He was a big proponent of that. Also, John McCain, he was service before self,” said Burns.

Church services will be held at North Phoenix Baptist Church on Thursday.
