Border Patrol agents confiscate over $127K worth in meth

Border Patrol agents arrested a 31-year-old Mexican national who attempted to smuggle over $127,000 worth of meth in his vehicle’s gas tank Saturday.

According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the incident happened at around 5:20 p.m. at the Wellton Station Interstate 8 checkpoint. A Border Patrol canine alerted to the man’s blue 2006 Volkswagen Jetta that was sent to secondary inspection. A search led to the discovery of 31 packages of methamphetamine that were hidden inside the vehicle’s gas tank.

The narcotics had a combined weight of 42.5 pounds and are estimated to be worth more than $127,000.

The vehicle and drugs were both confiscated.
