Mother reunited with 12-year-old daughter after separation at border
A mother separated from her child at the border last month was reunited with her daughter in Los Angeles on Sunday.
According to the CEO and President of Nexus Services Inc., the family was reunited after negotiations were made between the government and Derechos Humanos attorneys.
Perla Alemengor de Velasquez is one among thousands of parents separated from their children after the zero-tolerance policy was implemented.
The mother was reunited with her daughter after being apart for three weeks.
The reunion comes after Velasquez filed a lawsuit against the government on June 20.
Moreover, the lawsuit came days after the President changed his zero-tolerance policy, promising families would remain together at the border.
According to President Trump’s new Executive Order, children separated from parents will be reunited with their families by July 26.
Moreover, those under five will be reunited with their families by July 10.
However, the government said they may need more time to reunite some separated families on Friday.
