Most residents satisfied with YPD, according to survey

The Yuma Police Department partnered up with Arizona Western College to conduct a survey that would measure the community’s satisfaction with the police department.

The survey was conducted from October to December of 2017.

There were 86 community members who participated in the survey that asked citizens about the Yuma Police Department and their view of crime in the city. They surveyed random callers with the goal to have 60 community members participate and they surpassed that.

AWC was awarded $6,500 through a formal bid process to collect and conduct results. Professor Bertha Avila was responsible for organizing and supervising the project along with other professors at the college. Seven justice students were also part of the project and received $857 scholarships in return for their participation. Overall, the survey concluded that the community seemed satisfied with YPD but was concerned about traffic, property crimes, drugs and stray animals. The Yuma Police Department is currently understaffed and is actively hiring. Click here for more information. The deadline is June 4th.
