Primary election preview for Imperial Valley residents

Voters will have their voices heard when they fill out their ballots at the polls next Tuesday. It’s important that voters know how local races differ from state races and how their decisions can shape the county’s future.

“For the state races, it’s the top two. And they advance to November. For the local races they’re non partisan. And the local races, it’s the high vote getter,” said Debbie Porter, Registrars of Voters.

Some of the hot local races are for the Imperial Irrigation District, as well as a couple judicial seats.

” Locally we have the judicial races, For seats 1 and 3 that each have three candidates running in the, So that one. IID divisions 1,3 and 5, they all have oppositions.”

Also on the ballot are a couple of measures, including one that puts money back into the community.

“This is so the county can tax that recreational use. Or for growing it also. So it’s just different method of the taxation for the marijuana.”

One official from the Registrars of Voters office says it’s important for Valley residents to be informed when they make their decisions. “It’s a hundred percent important that every voter is informed about anything that they vote for. You would never want to look and know that you helped make a decision that you’re unhappy about. These are people that are locally making big decisions for us and helping our communities,” said Christine Beltran, Registrars of Voters office clerk.

The primary election is next Tuesday, June 5th. For polling locations go to our website kyma.com.
