High school students sickened by meth-laced water
24 new cases of intoxication from meth-laced beverages have been reported in Mexicali since last Thursday, authorities confirmed.
High school students from the Colegio de Bachilleres reported feeling sick after drinking contaminated water from a water cooler during a school event.
“In two occasions water was purchased and deposited in this water cooler. After this, they began to feel nauseous, having headaches and vomiting. The water cooler was provided by one of the student’s mothers,” said Fernando Ramirez, Deputy Attorney for Zona Mexicali.
Students were then transported to a hospital in San Luis, Mexico for treatment.
Authorities are continuing to investigate where the water was purchased.
There are reports that the meth may have come from a student, attempting to play a prank.
Former cases of meth-laced drinks reported in the past include Gatorade in 2016, Manzanita, and 7Up beverages in 2017.
