Student pleads not guilty to criminal threats charges
The Imperial High School student accused of making criminal threats pleaded not guilty on Monday at Brawley Superior Court.
18-year-old Karl Manaig was arrested on Friday, February 15 th after being accused of threatening to kill or injure other students. He faces 3 charges of making criminal threats against students in at least two other classrooms at his school.
The case was investigated by Imperial Police and I.V. Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, which is led by Homeland Security.
Authorities said other students at the High School alerted staff to Manaig’s alleged plans.
In court on Monday, the judge placed a protective order on Manaig, which means he cannot come near Imperial High School or certain classmates.
We spoke to his family, asking if Manaig had suffered bullying at school, but his family had no comment.
Manaig is scheduled back in court this Wednesday, February 28 th , and trial is set for March 12 th .
