TOPIC OF THE DAY: Employers hiring illegal immigrants

TOPIC OF THE DAY

Immigration and Customs Enforcement are stepping up its efforts to crack down on employers hiring illegal workers. Homeland Security agents in California went from business to business during a five-day sweep. They served dozens of employers with “notices of inspection” and administrative audits. It is the largest sweep so far this year. The agency says these audits are necessary to enforce the law. Companies found employing undocumented workers could face civil fines or even criminal prosecution. There are U.S. citizens that are not employed and it creates competition for them against criminals who are breaking the law by being here illegally. One owner was asked why he hired undocumented workers, and he said it was illegal for him to question if the green card or social security card is authentic.

That brings us to our Topic of the Day:
Do you agree that companies hiring illegal immigrants should face penalties?
