77-year-old man dies in ATV collision

On Thursday, February 8 , 2018, around 1:43 p.m., the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a single vehicle collision involving an ATV on a dirt access road parallel to the railroad tracks south of Highway 80 near Avenue 22E.

Sergeant Edgar Guerra with Wellton police explains what they believe caused the crash.

“Their initial investigation out on scene, they found that the ATV was traveling eastbound on the access road. The driver lost control after striking a rut, which was about moderate size. Causing the driver to be ejected from the ATV,” said Sgt. Guerra.

The driver was 77-year-old, Richard Davisson of Wellton, Ariz. He was unresponsive on scene and was transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center by Tri-Valley where he died.

Officers haven’t released the exact cause of death… But did say that he wasn’t wearing a helmet or a seat belt. Now they’re reminding A-T-V drivers to do so in order to stay safe. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

The family has been notified and this case remains under investigation.
