Serious accidents at the sand dunes over Thanksgiving week

A teenager is severely injured in a sand dunes accident over Thanksgiving week.

Sheriff’s Office repored that the teenager was riding an ATV on Friday afternoon at the Sand Drags near Winterhaven when he was hit by a sand rail. The report said he suffered a concussion and was bleeding from severe head injuries.

Imperial Valley REACH air ambulance said he’s one of several accident victims they took to hospitals for traumatic injury care over the Thanksgiving week.

REACH OFFICIAL DONNIE WHARTON said, “This past weekend was actually one of the busier thanksgiving weekends that we’ve experienced in recent history. We transported close to 25 patients out of the area. The vast majority of those patients went to area trauma centers.”
