Marine Corps. Commandant visits area bases
General Robert B. Neller the Commandant of the Marine Corps. has been visiting his installations across the country and this week he visited Marine Corps. Air Station Miramar, MCAS Yuma, Marine Corps. Recruit Depot San Diego and the Marine Corps. Air Ground Combat Center in TwentyNine Palms.
The purpose of his visit was to remind his fellow Marines on what it means to be a Marine. On Thursday, he spoke to fellow Marines in Twentynine Palms about a growing concern within the corps. Reports of misconduct amongst Marines on social media sites has prompted the brass to act. Commandant Neller called on all Marines to treat each other with respect regardless of race gender or sexual orientation.
The Commandant took the opportunity to tell those present what it means to be a Marine saying “The Marines are the ones who tackle robbers trying to steal from stores, help old ladies cross the street; Marines are the ones called to work with kids,” Neller said. “We have to always hold ourselves to that high standard of excellence and look out for one another.”
He followed that message by saying “I don’t care if you are straight or homosexual,” Neller continued. “I don’t care if your black, Asian, Muslim, Christian, male or female, All I care about is the fact that you all are Marines.”
The commandants wife Mrs. D’ Arcy Neller also spoke to Marine wives pleading with them to work to unify Marine families, asking them to socialize and discuss the welfare and moral of Marine Corps. families.
