Head-on crash sends woman to hospital with critical injuries

A car crash sent a woman and two 19-year-old men to the hospital after two cars ran into each other hear-on.

Somerton/Cocopah Fire Department officials say the crash happened on Somerton Avenue near County 14 1/4 at around 3:47 p.m.

A witness said the two 19 year olds were heading north when the pick-up truck they were in may have gotten a flat tire, according to officials. The flat caused the driver to lose control and crash into the woman heading in the opposite direction.

Officials say the woman was trapped inside the car and they had to use the ‘jaws of life’ in order to get her out of the car.

The woman was unresponsive and in critical condition due to possible internal injuries, according to officers.

The two 19-year-old men did not complain of any injuries but were still taken to the hospital for evaluation.

Somerton police and Yuma County sheriff deputies are investigating the crash.
