Topic of the Day: Whistle Blower Released from Prison

13 On Your Side wants to know your thoughts:

It’s the story of an Army Private convicted of espionage, sent to prison and then finding himself behind prison walls. Bradley Manning was convicted of leaking close to a million pages and videos to the public. The soldier admitted to uploading the information to the whistle blower website WiKiLeaks and in turn was sentenced to 35 years in a military prison.

In 2015, Bradley Manning announced that he self-identified as a woman and asked to be referred to as Chelsea Manning. Chelsea Manning became one of the first service members to receive access to transgender healthcare. Unfortunately, the announcement made Manning’s stay at Fort Leavenworth more hostile.

During the final days of President Obama’s last term the president commuted Manning’s sentence and was released on May 9th 2017. Chelsea Manning is still on active-duty and according to her representatives she looks forward to going on with her new life.
