Topic of the Day: Pepsi Ad Leaves Sour Taste

It’s not uncommon for a company to use current affairs to promote a product; but, PepsiCo’s latest ad has them in a bit of hot water or in their case hot soda. The ad features reality star Kendall Jenner in the starring role; the commercial depicts a joyful protest where Jenner brings peace, thanks to the aid of a Pepsi can.

After the ad was released a virtual backlash poured throughout the web; many felt that the soft drink company was making light of recent protests. In one scene Jenner stood in front of police, offering an officer a soda; some felt the scene looked a lot like a photo taken during a Black Lives Matter protest where a protester stood in front of officers wearing riot gear, the difference is no one was smiling and that protester was arrested. Pepsi has since apologized for the ad.
