Gov. Doug Ducey will not support sanctuary cities in Arizona
Governor Doug Ducey said the state of Arizona will not support sanctuary cities during an interview on Monday.
Although Yuma has been a gateway for many people to assimilate into U.S culture, the city of Yuma is not considered a sanctuary city. However, that doesn’t mean the governor’s disapproval wouldn’t have a drastic effect on the state of Arizona as a whole. Governor Ducey said he believes sanctuary cities go against federal law and is focused on prioritizing public safety. His Deputy Chief of Staff also wrote he believes the failure to comply to federal law is, “counterproductive and the wrong way forward.” The city of Phoenix is set to vote for or against the topic on February 15.
