Best S.T.E.P. Forward creates podcast for children with disabilities

This non-profit organization provides inclusive activities for the special needs community. - News 11's Vanessa Gongora reports.

IMPERIAL COUNTY, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - Best S.T.E.P. Forward started a podcast with kids as co-host to help bring awareness and acceptance to those with disabilities.

The podcast, not named quite yet, launched a pilot run on Thursday at the Best S.T.E.P. Forward Gym in El Centro.

S.T.E.P. stands for sports, theater, expression and perseverance.

Different mentors will be alongside the children, teaching them the fundamentals of doing a broadcast.

13 year old Killian Riddell who is diagnosed with autism and ADHD was the first co-host.

He had the opportunity of interviewing Dr. John Dalle from the Children's Foundation of the Imperial Valley.

Best S.T.E.P. Forward volunteer, Miguel Meza, says this podcast is not just geared for interviews, but also to help with future career opportunities.

"We're trying to have leaders of the community being interviewed by somebody who has a disability and we want to get their perspective and answer their questions so they know how they feel about some of the things going on in our community."

Best S.T.E.P. Forward welcomes all children with disabilities to be on the podcast to bring a view into their mind.

The podcast will be mobile between Calipatria and El Centro to provided access for all kids in Imperial County.

The goal is to have the podcast air bi-weekly.
