People Under 40 Don’t benefit from Alcohol

(KYMA, KECY/CNN) - The phrase "to your health" may no longer be appropriate to say before having a shot of liquor.

According to a global study there is no amount of alcohol that is beneficial to the body or mind for people under the age of 40.

The report, published Thursday in the "lancet" journal says people who drink have a greater risk of alcohol-related auto accidents, injuries and homicides and other potential health threats.

However, the researcher say light drinkers who have no major health conditions may reduce their chances of heart problems, diabetes and stroke.

The findings are based on 30-years' worth of data from 204-countries.

Some experts have issues with this report saying alcohol-linked deaths in Great Britain are significantly higher among the elder population and say the focus on younger age groups in this study is incorrect.

Four-years ago, the institute for health metrics and evaluation issued a report that said there is no health benefit to alcohol consumption for people between the ages of 15 and 49.
