Birthright citizenship heads to the Supreme Court

(CNN, KYMA) - The Supreme Court is hearing a case on birthright citizenship Wednesday.

President Donald Trump is trying to change it with an executive order. He doesn't want it to apply to babies born in the U.S. to undocumented migrants.

The Fourteenth Amendment states, "Persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the state wherein they reside."

The Trump Administration argues the "jurisdiction" part empowers President Trump's executive order.

Critics argue changing birthright citizenship would be logistically challenging. They say U.S. citizens might end up having to document their children's immigration status.
