Imperial County District Attorney candidates make one final push
EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - The race for District Attorney in Imperial County heats up once again, as the two candidates make one final push before Election Day.
Mario Vela and George Marquez are running, and soon one of them will be in charge of how the law is handled in the Imperial Valley.
A busy day inside the courthouse but just outside two candidates are doing what they do best, trying to prove their case.
"I'm going to be tough on crime but I am also going to be fair, I am going to prosecute but I also am going to work on prevention," George Marquez, DA candidate said.
Mario Vela says he is ready to hit the ground running.
"I'm going to be tough on crime but I am also going to be fair, I am going to prosecute but I also am going to work on prevention," he said.
George Marquez and Mario Vela are going head to head and say the final weeks of campaigning have been intense.
Marquez says Vela being endorsed by the current district attorney is not a good sign. But Vela strongly disagrees.
"I am not Gilbert Ortero, my name is Mario Vela and I am my own man, I am making my own legacy, I'm going to protect Mr. Ortero's legacy but that does not mean I am him," he said.
Both Vela and Marquez agree that keeping the valley streets safe and prosecuting criminals is a must.Â
The last day to register to vote in California is October 24th.
