Medal of Honor recognition ceremony took place at local VFW

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 1763 held a Medal of Honor recognition ceremony Saturday.

The ceremony started at 4:00pm, and was open to the public, including past and present military veterans.

This was in honor of National Medal of Honor Day as Congress established this to, according to the Medal of Honor Society, to "foster public appreciation and recognition of Medal of Honor recipients."

Furthermore, VFW Post 1763 educates the public on the history and meaning of the Medal of Honor as well as show appreciation for the recipients.

"Etched within the very values of each recipient displayed in the moments that matter: Bravery, courage, sacrifice and integrity. A deep love of country and the desire to do what is right," said Christopher Nunez, VFW Post 1763 Staff Judge Advocate.

Carne asada tacos and drinks were provided and a member of the Arizona Classical Ballet performed a patriotic tap dance for the attendees.

The Arizona Classical Ballet also provided snacks like cookies, marshmallows and slices of pecan pie.
