Judge grants special master, blocks DOJ access to classified documents in Trump case
(KYMA, KECY/ CNN) - Any national security concerns will have to wait -- and so will the Justice Department as a judge has named a special master to filter potentially privileged documents seized from former President Donald Trump's home.
The judge is also denying the Justice Department access to about a hundred marked classified for its criminal probe.
Judge Aileen Cannon says she doesn't buy DOJ claims national security could be at risk. Instead, she's prioritizing Trump's claims of potential attorney-client and executive privilege.
Essentially, a former president is claiming privilege that supersedes that of the current one.
Even some conservative analysts sound shocked.
George conway/conservative lawyer: "You have to wonder whether this judge belongs on a federal bench," said conservative lawyer George Conway.
"I almost feel, that, frankly, we are giving credence to this myth Trump came up with that he somehow declassified them," added CNN political commentator Alyssa Farah Griffin
The Justice Department says it will appeal.
As for the special master -- it's judge Raymond Dearie who both sides agreed on -- and most analysts say he's well-respected.
