Inmate with commuted sentence remains incarcerated
Doyle Williams now under investigation for child molestation
PHOENIX, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Authorities say they're now investigating an accusation of child molestation against him.
A recent report by the Arizona Capitol Times says the girl's mother accused Doyle Williams of molesting the child during a 1989 prison visit. Williams' attorney says prison authorities concluded the allegation was unfounded at that time.
However, the Arizona Board of Executive Clemency says it wasn't previously aware of the accusation. It says there was no record of the allegation after the prison investigated it.
No word on how much longer Williams will be held.
A judge sentenced Williams to life in prison for the 1969 murder of an elderly man. Three year later, the law changed to make inmates eligible for parole after serving 25-years of their life sentence. However, the law did not apply retroactively.
Governor Doug Ducey commuted Williams sentence last November citing the fact that the inmate had served twice as long as a similar offender after the 1973 law change. He ordered him eligible for parole after 45-years.
However, the finale decision on Williams' freedom remained in the hands of the Arizona Board of Executive Clemency. It's the entity now holding up his release.
