$600,000 of narcotics stopped by border agents
SAN DIEGO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - Border Patrol agents intercepted over $600,000 worth of smuggled narcotics in just one day.
Agents arrested two men suspected of smuggling the narcotics in two separate vehicle stops Thursday.
The first incident happened at about 12:00 p.m.when agents patrolling northbound Interstate 15 stopped a 2008 Honda Civic.
A thorough search was conducted after a Border Patrol K-9 alerted agents to the vehicle.
Inside, agents discovered a hidden compartment with six bundles of meth, two bundles of fentanyl, and two bundles of Oxycontin.
In total, the bundles totaled 15,000 pills, with an estimated street value of $553,225.
The 54-year-old male driver, a U.S. citizen, was placed under arrest. The narcotics were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Honda was seized by Border Patrol.
The second incident occurred just after 3:00 p.m. when Border Patrol agents working on Interstate 5 stopped a 2013 BMW sedan.
During a vehicle search, 50 packages of meth were found stashed in a black bag and a trash bag.
In total, the 50 pounds of meth had an estimated value of $94,240.
The 36-year-old male, a U.S. citizen, was placed under arrest.
Narcotics were turned over to the DEA and the vehicle was seized by Border Patrol.
