Agents rescue injured migrant in Jacumba Wilderness

OCOTILLO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - Border Patrol agents say a migrant with a leg injury was rescued in the Jacumba Wilderness.

At about 3:21 p.m. on Saturday, agents were told of a person who was lost in Jacumba and someone was in need of help.

Nearly two hours later, the injured person was found four miles away and was discovered to have pain his left leg.

“Unfortunately, when individuals put their trust in smugglers to cross the border illegally there are
very high risks of injuries, dehydration, and sometimes death”, stated Chief Patrol Agent Gregory
Bovino.

The 51-year-old man from Mexico was taken to a nearby hospital and will be processed due to not having the proper documentation to be in the United States.

“As in this rescue our agent’s aide hundreds of undocumented individuals each year who are deserted by unscrupulous human smugglers in the El Centro Sector. The border is closed – do not become another casualty”, said Bovino.
