Special Olympics hero returns home
Conner Smith reacts to winning gold and bronze at nationals
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The Desert Southwest has a "home grown" special olympics champion.
For the 1st time, Conner Smith speaks out about his triumph from last wee's Special Olympics USA Games in Orlando, Florida.
Smith won a pair of medals within the track and field competition, taking gold in the shot put with the throwing distance of 42 feet and 18 inches; and clinching the bronze medal in the long jump, reaching the distance of 4 meters.
In addition to the track and field events, Smith also competes in basketball, swimming, power lifting and bocce ball.
 Even with the accolades Smith has accomplished for the 1st time in his Special Olympics career, since he started competing at the age of 5, for him being a Special Olympian goes beyond the medal stand.
