Home Grown: Field to Feast
YUMA, Ariz. (KSWT, KYMA, KECY)-It’s a new year and with that, often comes new resolutions.
Did you happen to make any pertaining to learning about what’s growing in Yuma’s lush fields and eating local produce while you’re at it?
In today’s Home Grown, I’ll tell you an upcoming event to help you fulfill your New Year’s resolution.
Visit Yuma is bringing back their Field to Feast farm tours answering questions from the ground up.
This event allows Yumans to get down and a little dirty with a farming lesson!
These half-day tours are led by a local grower and participants get to visit fields planted at the University of Arizona research farm!
There, you will learn about food safety from Yuma food safety experts.
Then it’s off to the kitchen with a recipe card telling you what’s needed to make your lunch.
While picking ingredients, you even get to choose some produce items to take home with you!
During your next tour, culinary students from Arizona Western College will create a healthy lunch out of the fresh vegetables grown in the field!
You can then “pick” the brains of the culinary and agriculture students for their unique insights into the future of those fields.
Overall, the real recipe is this: A fresh and fun morning that’ll send you home with a new appreciation of food from farm to fork, fresh veggies you picked with your own hands — and a full stomach!
Tickets are $55 and include transportation and a healthy lunch.
The first tour will be this Thursday and to purchase your tickets, click here.
