Annual Horseman’s Banquet held ahead of Silver Spur Rodeo
The dinner is held as a way to celebrate the rodeo and help local organizations in the community - 13 On Your Side's Luis Lopez reports
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The Silver Spur Rodeo may not be coming to town until Feb 11, but Saturday night, sponsors for the event got together to celebrate, while also helping others. Those sponsoring the rodeo got together for the annual Horseman’s Banquet. While the event is held as a thank you to those sponsors, it’s also helping out local causes.
Those who attended were treated to dinner and drinks, and could even participate in a silent auction for different prizes. Part of the event was to raise money for local organizations. Something the rodeo’s chairman, Damien Moore, feels is important.
“We donate to them, we even help out with the volunteer sheriffs that come out that help us with our security during the rodeo, we donate to them throughout each rodeo, local boy scouts, FFA’s they come out and help us we donate to them as well, It’s just kind of one of those things that, you come out and help, it’s a token of appreciation,” Moore said.
Simply having the rodeo back is something Moore is grateful for. While other rodeos have had to cancel events in previous years due to the pandemic, the Silver Spur Rodeo, has been able to push through.
“It means a lot, I mean it is great to know that we are one of the few in the last three years that have been able to continuously be able to hold our rodeo, I mean like I said there’s a lot of them out there that had to cancel, they tried to postpone them and push them out and they still ended up cancelling the rodeos,” Moore said.
If you’re interested in going to the rodeo, you can find out where to buy tickets though the rodeo's website.
