BBB’s John Hessinger warns consumers to do some research before signing anything
While millions are counting the days until the new year and for many their new resolution, Hessinger says be mindful
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - For many, the new year simply means remember to put a '2" instead of a "1" when writing down the date. But, there are those that see the new year as an opportunity to improve something about themselves.
Whether you plan on joining a gym or becoming more financially sound the Better Business Bureau's Community Development Director John Hessinger says to be mindful about what you're signing up for.
Gyms and fitness stores love the new year because that means sales. Millions rush to sign up for gym memberships in hopes of sculpting their bodies. But, Hessinger says that before you sign on the dotted line, you need to ask what their cancellation policies are in the event that the hype is short-lived.
If you're buying high-end fitness equipment, you need to see what the store's return policy is and or warranties. The internet is filled with services offering people everything from nutritional supplements to support at a cost of course.
Hessinger says that's where the Better Business Bureau's website comes into play. Consumers can utilize the site to see reviews and complaints filed against a number of businesses both online and brick and mortar.
The site can also be used to spot potential scams preying on people's need to improve themselves. The BBB offers its ScamTracker page with business listings and tips on how not to fall victim to trending scams.
In the end,. Hessinger says that resolutions are a good thing, but he asks that people pay attention to the fine print before committing to anything.
