Suspect wearing military fatigues and ski mask arrested
Calexico Police said 35-year-old Daniel Romero Tovar walked into a gas station at North Imperial and Fifth Avenue on Saturday evening appearing to be armed.
Sgt. Armando Orozco said, “The subject was wearing full camouflage clothing, was wearing a face mask. And it was alleged that he walked up to the door of the business, produced what to the reporting parties appeared to be a firearm. Held it in the air and was making threatening gestures to the clerk inside the business.”
There was panic inside the business with some customers rushing out. Somebody called 911.
The suspect fled the area when police arrived. He was chased and arrested just a block away.
“Upon arriving they saw a subject running northbound from the location and he was stopped at the five-hundredth block of imperial in the alleyway,” Orozco said.
Police recovered the item that looked like a gun.
“That item was later, when it was recovered, turned out to be a pellet gun, not an actual firearm,” Orozco said.
Police said the suspect soiled himself as he was being arrested.
“He’s arrested for brandishing a firearm,” Orozco said.
Police said nobody was injured during the incident.
