Pregnant woman hospitalized after being involved in collision

A pregnant woman was hospitalized after being involved in a collision at West County 15th Street and Avenue A 1/2 Friday.

Somerton Cocopah Fire Department said firefighters arrived on scene and found a black Toyota sedan, with its single occupant, a 21-year-old woman still seated in it. At this same time, some men were pushing a black Ford Expedition that had been involved in the accident, to the north and onto a car dealership parking lot.

The woman told authorities she was traveling westbound on County 15th Street when the black Expedition pulled out of the vehicle dealership’s parking area and headed eastbound. The woman braked and swerved but was unable to avoid being struck by the Expedition.

The 21-year-old woman was complaining of pain to her left arm and wrist and told authorities that she was pregnant. The man in the black Ford Expedition did not complain of any injuries.

The pregnant woman was transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center for further evaluation.

The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the collision.
