Student hospitalized following suspected Fentanyl overdose

A 15-year-old student was hospitalized following a suspected Fentanyl overdose while at school Wednesday morning.

According to the Yuma Police Department, a 15-year-old student lost consciousness while at school at about 8:48 a.m Wednesday. The Yuma Fire Department administered medical aid, along with Narcan. Authorities discovered that the student had ingested a Fentanyl pill made to look like an OxyContin or oxycodone, and also known as an M30 pill. After receiving Narcan, the teen regained consciousness and was transported to the Yuma Regional Medical Center for further treatment.

YPD said t he pill the student ingested is the same type found in the recent overdose incidents in San Luis, Ariz. Fentanyl is a dangerous and often lethal opioid medication, or narcotic, when not administered professionally.

The police department added that they are partnering with YFD and the Yuma Union High School District to inform students and parents about the dangers of ingesting any illegal narcotics but specifically Fentanyl.
