Hope Brigade Cancer Support Group helps locals fight against cancer
Hope Brigade Cancer Support Group provides a safe and caring support to those that are suffering from the effects of cancer. The group provides the resources that help individuals to cope with the stress that accompanies the diagnosis of cancer.
Among the support group is Bruna George, who was diagnosed with stage three colon cancer back in 2015 when she was 29-years old.
“I remember I would carry a chemo fanny bag, this where my scar is at now. So during the week I had radiation and then I had chemo, I would get home and I would just be exhausted and there were days, where I would just lay in bed and say I’m done, it’s too much and it’s not fair,” said George.
George said she remembers how close she was to quit, but her family always reminded her to never lose faith.
“It wasn’t until one day that my dad came to my apartment, looked at me and said you can’t go before I do,” said George.
George’s message to anyone who is fighting cancer or who is a survivor is to share your story.
“It’s that never-ending faith and that hope that you’re going to wake up, that you’re going to open your eyes the next day and say it’s worth fighting for and that your life is worth fighting for. That you’re absolutely valuable to your friends and to your family, and you’re going to make a difference in someone’s life by sharing your story,” said George.
George is now cancer free for 2-years and she hopes to continue to help others who are in the fight.
