Local elementary school in need of new playground equipment
There has been some concern with parents of Pecan Grove Elementary School due to the lack of adequate playground equipment for their kids to enjoy. We spoke with the Principal of Pecan Grove Elementary School to hear what is needed on their playground and what the community can do to help.
Pecan Grove Elementary school located right off of South 21st Avenue is one of the oldest school facilities in Yuma. School funding is very tight and the school is on a constant lookout to increase the budget. The hope is that the community can step in and help, which would enable new swings for the smaller kids to be put in place along with more unique playground equipment like a concrete corn hole game board and a ping-pong table.
“Right now our playground equipment is very old and outdated and very minimal, so we have a need for playground equipment that our little kids can use that includes kindergartners and first graders as well as our older kids. What we want from the community is just an opportunity to have them come here and help us fundraise,” said Matt Kaste, Principal of Pecan Grove Elementary School.
Fundraisers such as “Movie Night” and “Fall Fest” held by the elementary school are meant for the community and the hope is that their playground can be open to the public for people to play on during the weekend.
