Record highs continue
2nd consecutive day excessive heat reaches new heights
YUMA, Ariz., (KYMA, KECY) - For a 2nd day in a row, our widespread excessive heat has pushed our area's daytime highs into the record books!
The Imperial Valley once again breaks new ground in this area, as El Centro made it to 118 degrees.
The previous record was 117, set back in 1940.
Imperial also exceeded it's record for this day of the year, reaching 118 degrees; beating out the 117 degree milestone established 16 years ago.
Blythe tied the 119 record that was set in 2015, while Yuma only peaked to 114 degrees.
That mark is 2 degrees short of the 116 degree record set in 2015.
All these temperature numbers were tabulated from the National Weather Service.
The current Excessive Heat Warning is expected to extend into Saturday night for Yuma County and Sunday night for Imperial County.
