Yuma Police Department offering free VIN etching

Yuma Police Department is breaking down the vehicle thefts by offering free VIN etching to the community. A (VIN) is a Vehicle Identification number about 17 digits long that each manufacturer assigns to a vehicle. The VIN number can be found inside of your door, the left of your dashboard, or even on your motor. On Saturday (Feb 18th) YPD will be adding the VIN on the outside of your windows free of charge in efforts to prevent theft to your vehicle. “With that VIN, it could lead us to a stolen vehicle,” said Officer Janet Sanchez. “It makes it a lot easier and it makes it harder for thieves to remove each window that they think doesn’t have the VIN.” If you are interested, YPD is asking you to bring your registration and to stop by Target at Yuma Palms Mall from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. YPD also encourages everyone to park their car in well “lit” areas and avoid leaving personal items in visible sight.
