Two teen girls arrested after failed smuggle attempts
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers arrested two teenaged females Wednesday after separate failed smuggling attempts at the San Luis Port of Entry.
Officers at the pedestrian lane referred a 16-year-old girl for further inspection when she attempted to enter the U.S. from Mexico. A CBP canine alerted to an odor it was trained to detect, prompting a further search of the teen. Officers found more than 11 pounds of methamphetamine wrapped around her midsection, with an estimated value of $34,000.
At about the same time, a second 16-year-old girl was referred for further inspection as well. A CBP canine also alerted to the presence of drugs, prompting a further search. Officers discovered more than seven pounds of meth wrapped around her midsection, worth nearly $22,000.
CBP officers arrested both subjects for narcotics smuggling and seized the drugs. Officers then turned the teens over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
