Remembering our Fallen

Regardless of it’s shape an officer’s badge is much more than an item used to identify which city their jurisdiction lies in. Their badge is a symbol of the oath they took to serve their community and protect those in harms way. Each year in the Desert Southwest the Yuma Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #24 holds their Police Memorial. A day set aside to remember those that have paid the ultimate price in their pursuit to make the world a better place. Friends, family and brothers in arms gather together to remember their fallen and the community joins to pay tribute to those lost protectors. The ceremony yields a few sentimental moments from the sound of the bagpipes and drums to the recognition of the lost horseman. It’s a somber moment as the names of those lost are read and spectators watch Old Glory being raised with an angelic voice singing our anthem in the background the vision of the American Flag waving over the desert sky it reminds us all of the price our warriors paid for a safer tomorrow.
