Cross-border tunnel found between the U.S. and Mexico
An abandoned cross-border tunnel was found near the Raul Hector Castro Port of Entry.
U.S. Border Patrol agents in the Tucson Sector issued a press release on Thursday, which said the tunnel was discovered by a city employee.
The tunnel was adjacent to a sewer line and had cut through a tunnel previously remediated. Agents say the tunnel once extended into the U.S. about 60 yards.
A Border Patrol tunnel team assessed the tunnel and determined there were no signs of recent use.
The tunnel was collapsed about 25 feet from its opening.
Officials say the tunnel was remediated on Thursday.
