TAX TIP TUESDAY: What is the best way to file and how can you check your refund status?

Tax season is upon us and this year we are getting three extra days to file. Bill Brunson, a IRS spokesman answers basic questions like what are the best ways to file a tax return and how can a person check their refund status. “The best way to file a tax return is electronically because its fast, its accurate, its secure. 48 hours after you’ve transmitted that return, we can notify you that we’ve received it and we can let you know that we are going to process it or that there is a processing problem that you need to re-submit. You can go to www.irs.gov where there is a “where’s my refund function” and key in the information to find out. Once you’ve filed a return, you want to allow the IRS time to process it. Give the IRS about 21 days if you’ve electronically filed the tax return before you start checking on it.” Brunson said. Brunson also mentioned that there is an IRS TO-GO app that will allow you to check on the status of your refund as well as make tax payments. Taxes are due on Tuesday, April 18th this year because the April 15th falls on a Saturday and the Monday following the weekend is National Emancipation Day. For more information on your taxes, you can visit www.irs.gov as well as call their toll free number at (800) 829-1040. Tax Tip Tuesday airs every Tuesday until April 18th.
