Imperial County set new voter turn-out record
There is a new record high for voter turn-out in Imperial County. This week the registrar of voters announced the counting was done and a new record was set.
According to the registrar of voters office, 69.4 percent of registered voters in the county went to the polls this last election. This is the highest percentage in the last 20 years.
The new number broke the record of 68 percent which was set during the 2008 presidential race where President Barack Obama won. Deborah Porter says the different services they offered during these presidential elections helped break the record.
“We had weekend voting and that brought in a lot of voters and we were out in the community and that helped those people that think they are forgotten sometimes and that helped also,” said Porter.
Porter says they are still working on certifying the ballots before they are sent to Sacramento.
