Hospice Compassus honors veterans at Yuma Senior Living Center
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KSWT, KECY) - 27 military veterans were honored by active-duty Marines from Marine Corps Air Station Yuma at the Yuma Senior Living Center.
On December 16, Hospice Compassus gave the veterans a special coin, a certificate to show their appreciation, and were finally pinned by one of the Marines.
It was an emotional time as the veterans said they appreciate any time someone comes in to honor them.
Hospice Compassus said they have events like this to show the seniors that they still recognize them for their service and that they are not forgotten.
Robert, a resident at Yuma Senior Living and a Vietnam War Army Veteran, remembered a time 4th graders visited them and thanked them for his service. He said moments like those make him feel important and special.
Events like these are held often, and Hospice Compassus wants more active-duty military members to reach out to volunteer to keep these senior veterans company.
Being at their bedside and just having a talk with them goes a long way for some of these veterans who don't have anyone else to talk to about their time serving.
If you are a military member and would like to volunteer your time, seek out your local senior center and call to see if there are any veterans there.
