Man pleads guilty for illegally disposing sewage at RV storage

A man who owns two separate RV storage locations plead guilty to conspiring to illegally dispose of sewage underground in a federal court.

According to a press release issued by the U.S. Attorney Southern District of California’s office, Kyle Vestermark, 46, admitted to illegally discharging sewage from RVs without a permit from 2004 to 2015. The illegal disposal happened at Dunes Edge Storage in Brawley and Dunes Toy Storage in Holtville.

Vestermark got a permit in 2004 for a holding tank for RV sewage from the Imperial County Public health Department that specifically prohibited the installation of underground leach lines. He also got a conditional-use permit for the Imperial County Planning Department in 2005 from the Imperial County Planning Board which also didn’t not allow the installation of underground lines.

Despite prohibitions, Vestermark admitted to using heavy equipment himself in 2005 and 2006 to install underground leach lines at both locations. Vestermark hit the water table while installing the dump station at the Brawley location – meaning that the sewage would contaminate the local water supply.

Vestermark agreed to forfeit up to $200,000 if the court determines that amount to be the proceeds of the offense.

Vestermark is a former Long Beach, California firefighter.

His sentencing hearing is scheduled from February 17, 2017.
