Drop your unwanted prescriptions off for disposal tomorrow

The Yuma Police Department and other local law enforcement agencies are taking part in National Prescription Drug take-back day tomorrow.

There will be locations set up all around town.

One of the reasons this event is so important is to keep drugs out of the wrong hands.

A young man started with abusing prescription drugs with a friend. The pills came from the family’s medicine cabinet.

It started with Treminol .

” Then hydros , then it went to oxy 30’s , the American ones, and then when that was too expensive it was heorin , and then when the fentanyl ones came out it was just all about that after that, ” said the man in treatment.

His drug abuse eventually led him to the Crossroads Mission.

His story is not so unusual. In fact, it’s becoming more and more common.

That’s why the Yuma police department says it is important to safely dispose of unused, unwanted, or expired prescriptions.

You can bring your drugs to the many locations around town tomorrow and officers will turn them over to the DEA for proper disposal.
