Locals politicians react to Vice President Kamala Harris’ pick
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Vice President Kamala Harris has announced Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate on Tuesday.
According to sources, prior to the announcement, Harris' shortlist had three finalists to be her running mate, which included Walz, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and Arizona Senator Mark Kelly.
The announcement comes after Vice President Harris formally secured the Democratic presidential nomination.
Some locals have mixed reactions regarding Harris's VP pick.
"I thought she was going to pick someone who was going to take her more to moderate the ticket but instead she doubled down on the liberal policies that they are asking for," said Arizona Republican Representative Tim Dunn.
While Democratic State Representative Marianna Sandoval is in full support of the vice president's selection, she says Governor Walz can relate to the Democratic party's priorities and values.
"Understand the rural issues like, I have a rural district, so I was happy about that. He seems to be someone that is focused on working families that is also values that I align with," said Representative Sandoval.
One local shares what they are looking for in the Governor Walz as a potential vice president.
"Things like education, trans health care, stuff like that I find really important so I mean if he’s advocating for LGBTQ and other minorities then I'm all for it," said local Mack Schwitzing.
Dunn says Independents and those still undecided should look at the policies of the candidates and keep their personality out of it.
