First coronavirus case confirmed in Arizona

Patient recently traveled to Wuhan, China

PHOENIX, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Arizona public health agencies have confirmed a Maricopa County resident has been diagnosed with the coronavirus.

This brings the total U.S. coronavirus cases to five.

Health officials say the patient recently returned from traveling to Wuhan, China.

The patient is reported to be a member of Arizona State University but does not live in university housing.

The Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) and the Maricopa County Department of public Health (MCDPH) say the unidentified patient is not severely ill, but is currently in isolation.

Officials are currently investigating to identify any close contacts to the patient who may have been exposed to the virus.
