NBC 11 Sports: Special Olympics athletes gather for area swim meet

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - It was a busy Sunday in sports, with local athletes competing in the pool and major storylines unfolding across the NFL and MLB.

More than 70 Special Olympics athletes from across the region competed at the area swim meet at Marcus Pool. The meet helped athletes prepare for the state games later this month on October 23 and 24 while giving competitors an opportunity to chase personal bests.

In Major League Baseball, the Atlanta Braves evened their National League Division Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers with a 3-2 Game 2 victory. Atlanta's bullpen helped shut down the Dodgers late, while Max Muncy's ninth-inning home run made things interesting before Raisel Iglesias closed it out. The series now shifts to Atlanta tied 1-1, with Yoshinobu Yamamoto expected to face Chris Sale in Game 3 Tuesday.

And in the NFL, the Arizona Cardinals couldn't hold onto an early 14-3 lead, falling 36-24 to the New York Giants. Jacoby Brissett threw for 250 yards and connected with Marvin Harrison Jr. for a touchdown, but three interceptions helped fuel New York's comeback. The Cardinals have now lost three straight and will return home next week to face the Detroit Lions.
